Upon arrival at the Charleston airport meet
your tour director and transfer to the hotel
located in the Historic District. Flight should
arrive in Charleston by 5:00 p.m. |
| Day 2 | Charleston Sightseeing |
|
Built on a peninsula, Charleston has remained
a beautiful port city for over 300 years.
Preservation and Southern gentility are both
a way of life here. The city tour includes the
Historic District, the Citadel, Battery Park,
and a tour of the Calhoun Mansion. The rest
of the day is at leisure. Tonight, enjoy a Get
Acquainted Dinner. |
| Day 3 | Gardens & Plantations |
| Today visit two Ashley River plantations.
Magnolia Gardens has 50 acres filled with
camellias and azaleas. Ride the Nature Train
through the wildlife and cypress swamp. Next,
see Middleton Place, home to America’s oldest
landscaped garden. Begun in 1741, it took
10 years to complete the terraces, lakes and
camellia alleys. Tour the home and the stable
yard with its craft displays. Return to the hotel
for an evening at leisure. |
| Day 4 | Charleston - Savannah, GA |
| Depart for the historic port city of Beaufort.
This quaint 1711 town with its narrow tree
lined streets and historic homes will remind you
of “Gone with the Wind”. Then it’s on to Hilton
Head Island, a world class resort isle filled
with beachfront hotels and golf courses. Visit
the Sea Pines Plantation village with its shops
and lighthouse. Arrive in Savannah, one of the
South’s most graceful cities for a two night
stay right in the historic district. Tonight, enjoy
southern cuisine at Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room,
a Savannah tradition for over 60 years. |
| Day 5 | Savannah Sightseeing |
| The Cotton Trade made this city a vital shipping
port during the 1800’s and today her unique
past has been preserved. Spend the morning
strolling the cobblestone streets at leisure
before meeting early this afternoon for a city
tour. See the 20 original squares, all landscaped with oak, azaleas, fountains, and statues.
Drive by the Old Cotton Exchange, River Street,
and Madison Square where General Sherman
ended his “March to the Sea”. Tour a restored
antebellum mansion. Enjoy free time to see
the sights of John Berendt’s “Midnight in the
Garden of Good and Evil”. |
| Day 6 | Savannah - Jekyll Island, GA |
|
Motor south today to the Golden Isles of
Georgia. Travel through Brunswick and stop
on St. Simon’s Island to view famous Christ
Church. This afternoon, arrive on ten mile
long Jekyll Island, once a hunting reserve for
America’s wealthiest millionaires. Goodyear,
Pulitzer, and Rockefeller built elaborate
“cottages” here. Tour the Historic District’s
Rockefeller Indian Mound and Faith Chapel
(houses may be substituted). Stay at the 1886
Victorian-style hotel, originally an exclusive
retreat for the rich. Dinner both night’s is
choice-of-menu in the elegant Grand Dining
Room. |
| Day 7 | Jekyll Island - Jacksonville, FL |
| Travel to St. Augustine, America’s oldest city,
founded in 1565. Enjoy a horse drawn carriage
ride through this early Spanish city, made
famous by Ponce De Leon’s search for the
Fountain of Youth. Visit the city’s Oldest House
(1702) and the Otto Lightner Museum with its
exquisite Tiffany windows, crystal, and music
boxes. Travel on to Jacksonville. This evening
reminisce about your journey at a Farewell
Dinner. |

Tour the interesting Anheuser-Busch Brewery
prior to arriving at the airport for our return
flights home. Return flight should not be booked
prior to 3:00PM . |
