Whistler Village

Whistler is located120 kilometres (75 miles) north of Vancouver, British Columbia on Canada’s west coast. Venture up the spectacular Sea to Sky Highway that links Vancouver to Whistler. This scenery-infused trip winds through lush coastal rain forests and dips and rises from sea level to Whistler’s elevation of 668 metres (2190 feet). Surrounded by the rugged Coast Mountains, Whistler in winter is full of possibilities.
At the centre of it all are Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. And they are huge. Spread out over 8100 acres, together they comprise three glaciers, 12 magnificent blows, and more than 200 marked pistes – steep powder chutes, challenging mogul fields, secluded tree skiing and groomed-to-perfection cruising runs.
Thirty-three lifts and five mountain bases ensure that lift lines are short and fast. Top that off with a ski season that runs from November until June and it’s easy to see why Whistler continues to win accolades as the number one rated ski destination.
Whistler By Day
There’s more, lots more, to Whistler than downhill skiing.
Go beyond the mountains - this is Whistler after all. Ride a snowmobile or tromp through fresh powder on snowshoes. Go back, way back, with heli-skiing. Thirty kilometers of groomed and track-set trails await cross-country skiers. Take a tour and explore the backcountry. Harness 4-legged energy and go dog mushing. You can even go bungee jumping in Whistler’s winter playground.
In 2010, Whistler, along with Vancouver, will welcome the world for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Showcasing the alpine, Nordic and sliding events for both Games, Whistler will show its true colours as a world-class resort.
Need to slow it down a notch? Wander the village and browse through more than 200 shops-the choices are endless. Meander through contemporary art galleries, arts and crafts stores, souvenir gift shops, sporting equipment and rental stores, jewellery and accessory shops, clothing stores and a selection of well-known North American retail favourites.
Whistler By Night
After your Whistler day, grab the group and head to one of the many outdoor patios buzzing with excitement and say hello to Whistler’s exciting après ski scene. Keep the good times rolling by hitting a nightclub or slow it down by relaxing over food and drinks at one of Whistler’s many award-winning restaurants and lounges. Whistler’s more than 90 restaurants serve up everything from rack of lamb and spicy Thai to sushi or traditional North American fare. Whatever your palate’s desire, there’s no shortage of dining options in Whistler.
You’ve played hard and you’re feeling the need for relaxation at the end of your active Whistler day. Simple. Ease into your private hot tub, standard with many Whistler accommodations. Or even better, indulge yourself in a massage or treatment at any of Whistler’s spa facilities offering the latest methods to ease muscle tension.
When it’s time to catch some shut-eye, Whistler’s wide-ranging accommodations become your home away from home. Choose from ski-in/ski-out lodging, family-oriented rental homes, award-winning hotels and everything in between.
Regularly scheduled bus services, float plane, helicopter, charter limousines, shuttles, vans and rental cars make getting to Whistler easy. It’s leaving it behind that’s hard.
These are major events happening and reasons to come during the next three years.
